We Should Listen To Ourselves

Let’s try to listen to ourselves, even though we are not taught how to do it. We know ourselves better than anyone else. Here’s my poem about that.

I believe that we are not taught to listen to our being

We are taught to discard what we are feeling

There are more important things to do, they say

The cycle repeats itself day by spirit crushing day

Let other people incorrectly judge your talents and worth

And all of this false praise starts at birth

We should try to listen to ourselves for a change

Perhaps psychological disorders are the exceptions

But for the most part, we should be able to find our own directions

We are babied long after infancy

As adults we should take agency

Unfortunately, real agency is discouraged

When it should really be encouraged

You may have an idea that is brilliant

A vision that is absolutely magnificent

But you have to resilient

For that “learning” academy has you immured

With your creativity stifled, it has to be endured

Don’t lose sight on what you want, listen to yourself

These liberty discarding lessons are taught at home, too

You are confused, you do not know what’s false or true

They think your own mind is the foe

But, what do they really know?

It’s an airstrike on your ingenuity

It also fires a shot at your productivity

Your motivation is fading or it’s already gone

It feels like there is nothing to act on

I repeat, we should listen to ourselves

Society is creating lambs and sheep

That don’t want to think too deep

Authority feed their minds and give them negative voices

During critical times, they are given very few choices

Their minds are contaminated with beliefs that are not right

And you can’t blame them, it’s not their fault

What would you expect

From young minds who do not know how to inspect?

They don’t listen to themselves

When they really should, we all should listen to ourselves
